Ko Yao Yai
Oct. 18, 2015

Ko Yao Yai is a small island in Phang Nga Bay where we spent two scenic nights, and ate 2 immense dinner buffets. Our room had a view over the bay and we watched a spectacular sunset. But no one cares about that.

Our one full day was spent on the beach and by the pool with its own waterfall. Check-out day presented us with a bit of a pickle. The last boat back to mainland Phuket was at 3pm, and our flight left at 10.30pm. We had four suitcases and once back on the mainland had nowhere to leave them. I guess we could've made enquiries but short of a police station I don't think I'd have trusted anybody to look after them. To make the most of our day, we thought we'd rent a moped again in the morning and zoom around Ko Yao Yai (it turns out there's only so much sitting on the beach I can do. One day is my maximum. Even then I started to feel a bit agitated and guilty for not optimising my time). Then, like an 80 year old, Dan threw his back out trying to weigh my suitcase. Nothing hospital-worthy, but he couldn't ride a moped. And I couldn't with him on the back.

Instead, we walked down the beach and back inland - the only way to actually get out of our hotel. Once we left the confines of the hotel we were back to the usual shanty village with shouting taxi and tuk tuk drivers. We met a very nice lady working in a clothes shop. She had almost perfect English (very unusual) and told us she'd been to university in Bangkok and was now back in her hometown running this little tourist shop. I bought a bracelet off her and she taught me how to say "that's too expensive" in Thai. She thought I needed the help.

Phew back to the lovely beach.

After the boat and taxi, we spent 5 hours in the airport, but the wifi was good and I got to update my blog. Apparently this is the first time I've ever written 'blog' in the actual blog and hilariously note that WordPress considers 'blog' a spelling mistake.
